TAX BILLS are mailed on June 1 and are payable to the Village Treasurer during the month of June without penalty. A 5% penalty is added in July and an additional 1% each month thereafter.



VILLAGE ELECTIONS are held the third Tuesday in March. The Mayor and Trustees are elected to two-year terms and the Village Justice is elected for a four-year term. The Organizational Meeting is held the second Thursday of April.



VOTER REGISTRATION:

If you have just moved to the Village, you should be reminded that in order to vote in the next election you will need to register. This can be done anytime at the Columbia County Board of Elections or by mail. Forms are available from the Village Clerk's office.

  • The Village holds one registration day in March.


  • HANDICAPPED PARKING PERMITS:

    Applications are available from the Village Clerk's office. The Village is only allowed to issue permits to Village residents.




    TOWN CLERK: The Town of Chatham and the Village of Chatham are SEPARATE ENTITIES. The Town Clerk should be seen for the following: Marriage Licenses; Dog Licenses; Hunting Licenses. The Village of Chatham is located in both the The Town of Chatham and the Town of Ghent. If you are in the Village of Chatham - Town of Ghent, you should go to the Ghent Town Hall for Dog Licenses, etc. The Chatham Town Hall (392-3262) is located on Rte. 295 between Chatham and East Chatham and the Ghent Town Hall (392-4644) is located on Rte. 66 in the Hamlet of Ghent.
